Group 1001 Names Bill Shelton as Chief Marketing Officer

Group 1001 today announced the appointment of Wall Street leader Bill Shelton to the position of Chief Marketing Officer. Shelton is a financial services veteran with deep expertise in delivering transformational growth and success in both the corporate and start-up sectors. He will report to Group 1001 CEO and President Dan Towriss.

“We’re delighted that Bill is joining Group 1001 and will quickly deliver on our mission of powering the next generation of insurance products, working to leverage technology to bring down costs and increase transparency to customers’’ Towriss said. “Bill’s immediate focus will be on the Gainbridge brand, products and sponsorship efforts. His experience as an innovative leader in the worlds of both Wall Street and sports will help us build on our existing initiatives and accelerate growth of our brands.’’

“I have been an admirer for years of Dan’s business acumen, social consciousness and vision for Group 1001.  This appointment is a unique opportunity that combines my passions for fast growing business, retail financial services products, responsible social change efforts, and sports in one organization which is exciting. I can’t wait to get started.”

Shelton has 25 years of executive experience, including 17 years on Wall Street at JPMorgan’s Investment Bank and with the derivative businesses at both Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs. At Deutsche Bank, he was a managing director overseeing most of the institutional derivative businesses, including insurance. At Goldman Sachs, he was a managing director leading the firm’s efforts in designing, selling and marketing proprietary indices for fixed index annuities sold to insurance companies. He was first introduced to the Group 1001 enterprise at Goldman Sachs and then provided several indices for Group 1001 products when he moved to Deutsche Bank.

In addition, Shelton is the co-founder of Parity, a sports and technology company focused on improving the lives of elite women athletes. Parity, seeks to bridge the gender pay gap in the sports sponsorship and endorsement market, using analytics and tech. This makes Shelton the perfect match with Group 1001’s mission to drive social change through sports and education.

Shelton is a board member of Rev Racing, the competition arm of NASCAR’s Driver for Diversity Program, and a former board member of USA Track and Field (USATF). His experience in sports also includes being a recent USATF Masters American Record Holder (4x400m), and as a mentor to several former and current athletes from the NBA, NFL, and Track & Field. Bill has received numerous awards including the America’s 50 Top Blacks In Technology, Walter Massey Leadership Award, Morehouse College, Business Innovator of the Year Finalist, Black Enterprise Magazine and the C. Steward Leadership Award from the University of Virginia.
