The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation (CRSF) held its 19th annual Aspire Gala at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront on March 25. The event honors leaders from the fields of sports, entertainment, and business and continued the tradition of honoring those who are truly making a difference in the lives of others. This was the fourth year Group 1001 has chaired the gala, and thanks to all the sponsors, special guests, and attendees, it was an incredible event.
The CRSF helps to strengthen America’s most underserved and distressed communities by supporting and advocating for children, building youth development parks, partnering with law enforcement and youth service agencies, and addressing community needs through its national program initiatives. As a large sponsor of CRSF, Group 1001 has committed $10 million to the foundation from 2018 to 2027. To date, the partnership has resulted in:
69,734 youth and 6,135 mentors engaged
10 STEM centers
14 youth development parks
Dan Towriss, President and CEO of Group 1001, was asked to speak at the event. In his speech, he recognized Billie Jean King, who was the special honoree of the evening and is the namesake of the Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge.

During the gala, Billie Jean King was interviewed by Amber Theoharis, an Emmy-award-winning sportscaster and host for NFL Network. She shared her struggles with being a woman in sports, influential people in her life, and recognized all the sponsors of the CRSF, including Gainbridge.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Battle of the Sexes, the founding of the Women’s Tennis Association, and equal prize money at the US Open, which wouldn’t have happened if Billie wasn’t committed to the dream of equality for women. In recognition of her contributions, Group 1001 has created a special giving campaign called Billie and Friends, where socially aware, inclusivity and diversity-driven philanthropists will partner with our mission to transform lives through sports and education.
All proceeds from this year’s gala will directly benefit the work of the CRSF and the 1.3 million children impacted each year.
