1001 Hours of Impact - Gleaners Food Bank Recap

Group 1001 employees have achieved 850+ hours across the company for 1001 Hours of Impact!

August 9 and 11, 100 employees joined over two days for a combined 284 hours to make a difference for food-insecure Hoosiers across 21 counties. We partnered with Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana for its drive-thru food distribution and warehouse to help sort and bag donated food items. Employees worked together to distribute food packages to a steady stream of thankful families. Overall, we helped provide 41,000 meals to hundreds of households.

“Spending the day with Gleaners was a very rewarding experience,” said Tory Purvis, director of Corporate Treasury. “The neighbors who drove through were grateful and hopeful and thanked us for being there. The full-time employees also showed their commitment to the community through their enduring dedication to the food bank and always had a smile on their faces as they taught us our roles and replenished the food at stations.”

In addition to staff, several of our partner drivers and players volunteered, including NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Nick Sanchez, INDYCAR Series driver Colton Herta, Indiana Fever player Erica Wheeler, and NASCAR drivers Corey LaJoie and Ty Dillon.

The partnership between Group 1001 and Gleaners Food Bank began in 2021 when the organization funded an awareness campaign featuring the #98 Andretti Autosport car driven by Marco Andretti. The partnership continues, now with an emphasis on food-sourcing partners for Gleaners and Fresh Connect Central, the social enterprise operated by Gleaners and serving Feeding America member food banks across the country. Gleaners has ongoing volunteer opportunities available for individuals and families.

“Organizations like yours provide vital support to Gleaners,” said Sarah Estell, chief communications and advocacy officer for Gleaners. “From financial support to this incredible volunteer effort, Group 1001 and its employees help shine a light on food insecurity and on ways people can make a difference here or in their own communities.”
