Empowering a New Era of Athletes: Women's Decathlon National Championships to Take Place August 12 and 13

Walnut, CA – August 8, 2023 – The Women's Decathlon National Championships, empowered by Heaven to the Yeah and supported by Gainbridge®, a Group 1001 company, will take center stage at the Hilmer Lodge Stadium at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, CA, on August 12 and 13. Women athletes will have the opportunity to compete in the ultimate test of strength, endurance, and athleticism. The event aims to break down barriers and redefine athletic excellence.

Traditionally reserved for male athletes, the title of World’s Greatest Athlete has been synonymous with Olympic Decathlon champions. The Women's Decathlon National Championships, empowered by Heaven to the Yeah and organized by athletes Lauren Kuntz and Jordan Gray, will mark a significant step toward inclusivity and gender equality in track and field.

"It is so important that young girls see themselves as being able to do anything - on and off the track," said Kuntz, the world record holder in the Women's Icosathlon (Double Decathlon). “Pushing for both the women’s decathlon and icosathlon is my way of helping bring equity into track and field and create the world as I wish it was."

In collaboration with the nonprofit organization HERicanes, the event will also feature the Girls' Decathlon Expo, an initiative aimed at fostering leadership and empowerment for young girls. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage in scaled versions of decathlon events, guided by experienced female athletes who will impart their expertise and techniques to the next generation.

“This Decathlon is not just an average track and field occurrence,” said Gray, American record holder in the Women’s Decathlon. “The Women’s Decathlon stands for change and equality in our sport. Every woman that comes to compete, fan that watches, and supporter that engages, is a part of a worldwide social movement which stands for the idea that ‘Yes, women are capable of being The World’s Greatest Athlete.’”

The action starts at 9 a.m. on both days following the final event and awards ceremony on Sunday, August 13, attendees will have the chance to interact with athletes, collect autographs, and capture photographs.

In a concurrent showcase of athletic skill, the Masters Combined events championship will take place, featuring athletes of all ages, including competitors in their 80s.
